Elio Rodrigues migrated from Portugal to Canada in 1974, driven by a long-standing desire to run his own business. Only two years into his residency, he took the plunge and launched not one, but three ventures. In 1976, Elio founded Continental Driving School, a driver training business. But he didn't stop there. Elio and his wife also opened Athena's Portuguese Restaurant on King St in Kitchener, and in the same year, he launched Worldwide Continental Travel, a travel agency.

Elio has a history of giving back to the community. He was an original member of the Waterloo Region Business and Professionals Association (wrpbpa) in 1996, and he continues to be an active member today. He served on the Board of Directors for the Kitchener Portuguese Club Inc. for 12 years, and on the Board of Directors at St. Joseph's Place for 10 years. Elio is also a dedicated supporter of the WRPBPA annual golf tournament, which raises funds for St. Mary's Hospital Cardiac Care in Kitchener.

In 1997, Elio started organizing an annual golf trip to Sao Miguel Azores through his travel agency. This trip has grown in popularity and has attracted groups of up to 40 Canadian golfers each year. This trip is still a staple today.

When Elio has some free time, he enjoys spending it with his grandkids, family, and friends. He's an avid fan of Sport Lisboa Benfica of the Portuguese soccer/football league and also supports the Toronto Maple Leafs.
